Crafting a Colorful New Year: Unpacking My Crochet Goals for 2024

It’s that marvelous time of year again! Where the air is brimming with hope and excitement; motivation is flickered back to life and everyone, everywhere is setting goals for what they want 2024 to be like. There seems to be a normal ebb and flow to the cycle of creating goals around this time of the year. As you grow into adulthood, you consistently set resolutions for yourself, but slowly, over the years, most people grow into cynicism and refuse to set goals. Possibly the result of failed resolutions past?

For myself, I’ve been nestled right into the comfortable arms of New Year cynicism for a while. Except for this year. This year, my hope has been rekindled and I’m setting goals for myself.

Now that Hooked by Honeybee has been launched successfully, I’m setting some S.M.A.R.T. goals for myself and my business that will see me through to the end of 2024. If you’re unfamiliar with S.M.A.R.T. goalsetting, check out my graphic below that explains what it is!

Setting S.M.A.R.T. goals for yourself is a great way of setting yourself up for success. It allows you to really focus on the goal at hand and help you feel a continued sense of “I can do this”. I’ll be checking in on my 2024 goals once every few months to see how my results are stacking up! But for now, let’s dig in to the meat of what I want to accomplish this year:

Business Goals for 2024

Hooked by Honeybee had an amazing 2023 and I’m eager to continue that in this coming year. I’m setting my business goals with that in mind!

  • Participate in 4 craft markets in 2024. The overall goal is to establish my yearly market schedule of markets I’d like to participate in every single year.

  • Develop a crochet basics course for my blog.

  • Speaking of the blog? My goal has been to continue the consistency of posting 2x/week. Therefore, the overall goal for 2024 is to have amassed 104 blog posts.

  • My Instagram goal is to see a 225% increase in follower count. I’m currently at 461 followers and I would like to reach 1,500 by year end.

  • My TikTok goal is a bit more - I want to see a 263% increase in followers, reaching 5,000 total from the current 1,366.

Each one of these goals pushes my business forward and gives me something to measure my success against! Yay for S.M.A.R.T. goals!

Crochet Goals for 2024

On the creative side of things, let’s talk a little bit about what I want to accomplish with my lovely crochet hook this year.

In 2023, I created two patterns from scratch. But for 2024, I’d like to grow that department of my skillset even more. I want to create atleast THREE new crochet patterns.

  • One of them I’d like to be of Mr. Honeybee’s cat, Toby (Pictured here). That nose splooch is just CALLING MY NAME.

  • Another pattern I am planning on creating is from a cartoon my dad created when I was a child. I recently obtained a copyright on it for me and my brothers now that our dad has passed and I’m planning on turning it into a crochet pattern! I can’t wait to share this with you all when it happens!

  • I’m not sure what the third pattern will be yet! Let me know if there’s something specific you’d like to see!

This pillow was made using Tunisian Crochet! I’m in love!

A much simpler crochet goal is to learn the Tunisian Crochet technique in 2024. It’s a crochet skill that simply fascinates me and I can’t wait to try it out!

I also want to create a series of Cats in Hats. Where I crochet hats for my cats — It’s plural here, but only one of my cats will let me put one on him!

Things I want to make sure I crochet this year:

  • A cardigan for myself and one for my almost 4 year old niece!

  • Something HUGE, that isn’t an African Flower Motif animal

Personal Goals for 2024

There’s really only one, and that’s to make sure I take care of my thumb and wrist pain when it occurs, instead of pushing through!

Overall, a slightly intimidating and mostly exciting year ahead! I can’t wait to get started! What’s on your list for the 2024 calendar year? I’d love to hear what S.M.A.R.T. goals you’re setting for yourself!
